"Even with an open sliding door, I managed to fairly seriously pepper spray myself while drying a bunch of habanero peppers!" Ha ha. That sounds like me, I could probably even hurt myself with a dehydrator. I experiemented with drying some jerky in an oven but I received a bad recipe I think as it really didn't turn out too well. The consistency was okay, but the flavoring was off. I should have added sugar. I'm not much of a cook because I'm kind of lazy with cleaning up, but I think I will eventually try a dehydrator. Apparently they're easy to clean in a dishwasher. The only food on your list I don't think I'd want to try is dried plums. I love the sweetness in plums! I'd be interested to hear your experiences with the Nesco dehydrator with beef jerky, as that's what I'd use it for. Particularly how close taste and texture-wise to commercial jerky you can get.

Actually, Alton didn't mention the website. I searched for "Grain Mill"
and looked for the machine he used in show to mill
some oats, I think. This website was only ones to carry it. plus
they seem to carry all the best brands for the individual category.
I myself like "Rikon Kuhn" as far as pressure cookers is concerned.
Every cook should have a pressure cooker.
and their pots are not bad either. They have the best little gadgets as well.

Actually, the additional informaiton you just provided is perfect. If Alton says it is good, that is some serious bonus points! Generally, the more personal experience and information provided with a link, the less "spammy" it is!

I really need to get into making baked goods. Alton did "upside down peach cakes". Looked really easy and a good starting point.

I thought you might appreciate the link but I don't know
how to make it less spammy. may be you could tell us.
Its not an advertisement because you know I have commented
on your blog before. I found the site because "Good Eats"
showed grain mill once I would so love to buy a grain mill but
not right now.

That last comment was just a bit "spammy", but completely related. The company seems to have some impressive gadgets -- including a $10,000 food dehydrator.

Their prices seem a bit high, but their selection of food processing tools is damned impressive.

A friend of mine dried watermelon and got very cotton candy-esque results. I bet that's something Roger would probably like :)

BTW, I need to stop reading your posts when I'm hungry, because you're not helping, my friend!
