I Like Light. And Clear Stuff. And Texture. And Reflections.

Odd Planet 1

I like this photo and had fun taking it.

So I’m posting it.

Maybe someone else will enjoy it, too.

Odd Planet Setup

This is a snap of how the shot was setup.

  • The subject is a glass ball given to me by a wonderful person long ago.
  • Ball placed on a hard drive platter.
  • Hard drive platter balanced between two hard drive shells.
  • Illuminated from underneath by a white LED.
  • Lens: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
  • ISO 100, f/9, 30 second exposure (maximum aperture possible without underexposing or pulling out my homebrew remote.
  • Tripod, of course.
  • Focused sharply on the reflection.

The little starburst of light in the upper right is actually an image of the LED refracted through the outer layer of transparent glass.

Thats a great photo. Did you want to elaborate on the content a bit. It reminds me of one of those security mirrors reflecting neon signs outside after a bit of rain. But I’d love to know what it is.

I LOVE this picture! It’s over the top. Now you can be a professional chef AND professional photographer along with everything else.

Nice work Bill. You should share some pictures of your camera and lighting rig.
