Roger found a black widow hiding under the rim of a neighbor’s trash can.
I took a photo before we knocked it down and squished it.
As much as I hate to kill anything, I’m not at all opposed to discouraging growth of the disturbingly large population of black widows in the San Jose area this year.

Black widows are kinda cool. One year I put one in a jar and fed it bugs. One day I tried to feed it a praying mantis. Yeah, I was mixed up on who the predator was in that relationship. Next day I found the praying mantis feasting on the black widow.

Kill it with fire. Then kill any brown recluses you can find.

We got a bunch of those up here in the mountains. We don’t like squishing stuff either, but I’ll squish those.
